Ruby Woodland/Wildlife Area

The Ruby wildlife area is about 60 acres. The area has some incredible attributes to offer. A crystal clear bedrock stream flows through the property supporting a highly diverse ecosystem. There are rolling hills and an area resembling a Prairie Oak Savanna, large old growth oaks inhabit the area to the South. A wide open meadow lies through the central part of the property.

Acquired in February of 2008, the Ruby property was sold to the conservation board as a way to protect and preserve the area. It’s a beautiful area with many unique and rare qualities showcasing the landscape of central Hardin County. Hardin County was very fortunate to receive a REAO grant to help acquire the property from the Ruby Family. Conservation staff uses fire and other mechanical means of management to maintain and continue to enhance this natural area.
