Hannen Lake Park
Discover Hannen Lake Park in Blairstown
Located in beautiful southern Benton County, Hannen Lake makes for a wonderful getaway to spend a day fishing and swimming, or an ideal location for your next camping trip. Hannen Lake Park is BCCB’s largest campground, and a hotspot for fishermen and hikers in Benton County. The park offers 69 campsites, a beach with an ADA sidewalk accessible near the park kiosk, a rustic cabin, and several picnic areas. Hannen Lake Park offers two open air shelters, four shower facilities, a boat ramp with a kayak launch, a beach area, and two playgrounds.
There are 218 acres of rolling woodland and prairie surrounding this 38 acre lake. This lake is recognized as the first County Conservation built lake in Iowa. BCCB began creating a county park after acquiring this site from members of the Hannen family in 1958. Construction of the 38 acre lake began shortly after, and required moving over 56,000 cubic yards of earth, placing 1,350 tons of stone rip rap, and constructing a 600 foot long dam.
