Donate to help our Remnant Prairies at Don Williams Park
Help us raise funds to restore and protect the newly discovered prairie remnants at Don Williams Park.
The remnants are scattered across the park and make up roughly 50 or so acres. They consist between a dry to a wet mesic prairie.
The rarest flora species have included Prairie Dandelion, Hoary Puccoon, Prairie Rose, Wild Alfalfa, Small Skull Cap, Silky Aster, Grey Goldenrod, Giant Goldenrod, Wilcox’s Panic Grass, and so much more.
Fauna such as Leopard Frogs, Smooth Green Snakes, Eastern Kingbirds, Regal Fritillary’s, and the endangered Rusty-patched Bumblebee call these areas home.
By funding this project you are helping Boone County Conservations mission, "To protect, conserve, and maintain our natural resources and provide education and recreation for the benefit of current and future generations."
Our Goals:
- To maintain and restore the prairie within these remnants by reducing the number of non-native/ invasive species.
- Improve biodiversity for both fauna and flora.
- To begin a propagation program to keep the seed bank localized.
- To provide educational opportunities to the public to inform them of what Boone County looked like before European settlement.
You can make a difference in helping us restore Iowa's natural heritage for the future generations of Boone County.
