Bat House Workshop

MAY 26 2026 5:30 PM

Fontana Park , Buchanan County

Event Summary

Join a naturalist to learn about the bats of Iowa.  North American bats face a number of threats. All but two of Iowa’s nine species of bats are in need of conservation intervention.  How are those species faring within the borders of Iowa? In this presentation, you will be introduced to Iowa's bats, their ecology, and learn their population status in Iowa.  Following the presentation, there will be an opportunity to make and take a bat house and hang it up around your property or yard.  The materials will be provided.  You may wish to bring a drill as there will be a limited supply to share.  The bat house kits were made possible from the Oelwein High School shop class!
