Afternoon Session Homeschool Monarch Tagging

Event Summary

Homeschool families are invited to join Buena Vista County Conservation for a hands‑on monarch tagging experience. We’ll start with a short program on monarchs, their life cycle, and their migration to Mexico, along with how tagging helps scientists track their journey.

After the presentation, families will help staff tag and release monarchs that were caught ahead of time. All tagging will be supervised to ensure safe handling.

Kids who want to try catching their own monarchs can then explore the prairie with nets! Any butterflies caught will be brought back to staff for tagging and release.

All equipment is provided.

Registration required; space is limited.
