Monarch Tagging in the Park

Event Summary

Join Buena Vista County Conservation for a hands‑on monarch tagging experience. We’ll begin with a short program covering the monarch's life cycle, their journey to Mexico and how tagging helps scientists track their migration.

After the presentation, participants will help staff tag and release monarchs that were caught ahead of time. All tagging will be supervised to ensure safe handling for both butterflies and participants!

Those who wish to experience the joy of prairie frolicking and trying to catch their own monarchs can grab a net and head to our reconstructed prairie area. Any butterflies caught will be collected by staff for tagging and release. 

Staff will be available throughout the event to assist and guide participants.

All equipment is provided.
