Event Summary
Syrup Tapping Demo
Pony Hollow Trail
Saturday, March 22nd, 10:00 AM
Reservations Required
Come and learn how to tap trees and make syrup with local producer Ben Hoksch of Front Yard Sugar, and enjoy a short nature hike on the second day of spring! Ben is an accomplished forager, with over a decade of experience making maple syrup from trees in urban yards and boulevards to help citizens connect with the natural world right outside their doorstep.
Reservations are required, but the event is free. We will meet at the shelter house at the Elkader City Park at 10:00 AM before heading out on the Pony Hollow Trail to learn to identify the best trees for sap production, and the ins-and-outs of turning that sap into syrup.
Reserve your spot today by calling (563) 245-1516 or visit the Osborne Nature Center. Osborne Nature Center is located on HWY 13 five miles south of Elkader. The center is open from 8:00am to 4:00pm, Monday-Friday. For more information on events visit www.claytoncountyconservation.org.
