Event Summary

On March 20th come to Starr’s Cave and discover the fascinating world of insects. At this hands-on program for ages 14+ you will learn about insect’s anatomy, ecology, and look at native insects under a microscope. To finish participants take home their own pinned & framed insect!

We will begin by discussing insect body structures and how they relate to the role they play in ecosystems — from their unique adaptations to their specialized exoskeletons.

Next in “insects under a microscope” participants will get an up close look at insect bodies & details not visible to the naked eye.

Lastly, during “Pinning insects” we’ll learn how scientists preserve specimens and participants will leave with their own pinned and framed insect!

Throughout this program we’ll connect insect’s biology to ecology and examine how insects contribute to pollination, decomposition, and biodiversity.
