Hamilton County Conservation Board

Park Ranger

The Hamilton County Conservation Board is seeking a qualified applicant for a full-time Park Ranger position at Briggs Woods Park near Webster City, Iowa.

 

DUTIES:  Included, but not limited to the following:  Perform responsible technical "hands-on" supervisory work in directing, coordinating and participating in the development, maintenance repair and enhancement of County parks and public access areas. Main focus and placement will be at Briggs Woods Park, and other areas as assigned.  Enforce County and State laws, and performs other related work as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university preferred, with major course work in parks and recreation operations and management.
  • Supervisory training and experience, preferred.
  • (ILEA) Iowa Law Enforcement Academy certification preferred, or the ability to successfully graduate from ILEA within one year of hired date.
  • Selected applicant will undergo background checks and a successful completion in physical and psychological testing as mandated by Iowa law.
  • Ability to work under all types of weather conditions and withstand rigorous physical work.
  • Ability to stand, walk, sit, kneel, stoop, balance, climb and able to lift up to 50 pounds above the head.
  • Ability to work flexible work days and hours to accommodate patrol work as assigned.
  • Iowa Commercial Driver’s License and a Pesticide Applicator’s license preferred, or the ability to obtain them within one year of hire.

 

SALARY:  Starting at $47,841 a year. A 40-hour, non-scheduled work week with weekend and evening duties required.  County health, dental, vision and life insurance benefits, IPERS,  and other benefits may apply.

Park Operations Internship

DESCRIPTION:  The Hamilton County Conservation Department is accepting applications for a Park Operations Internship position.  This position is for approximately May 15 –August 15 depending on applicant and education pursuits.  Under the general supervision of the Park Officer, duties will include grounds and buildings maintenance, campground care and public relations, park management construction projects, trails and forestry practices, prairie management, lake management studies and equipment maintenance.

LOCATION:  Briggs Woods Park, Little Wall Lake Park and Bells Mill Park all in Hamilton County.

QUALIFICATIONS:   Minimum of high school enrollment with desired course work towards conservation, parks, or recreation field.  Knowledge and skills with hand tools, power tools and power equipment such as front deck mowers, weed trimmers and tractors.  Ability to stand, walk, sit, kneel, stoop, balance, climb and able to lift up to 50 lbs. Ability to follow written and oral instructions and possess a valid driver’s license. 

SALARY:   $8.50 per hour. 40 hour non-scheduled work week with some possible weekend duties.  Other benefits may apply.
