Bessman-Kemp Park
These 71 acres of land were given for a park and wildlife preserve in memory of John S. Kemp’s parents. The Kemps were early settlers on this land in the 1850’s. Many clubs and organizations—local, county, and district held their meetings there. The park has picnic tables, fire rings, vault restrooms and river access.
Location
This 71 acre park is located ½ mile west of downtown Alden at 122690 EE Ave., on the north side. Property lies on both sides of the Iowa River. Primary access is on the south.
Features
Today this park is one of many Water Trail sites along the Iowa River Greenbelt’s Scenic Trail. A place where you can enjoy picnicking, camping and fishing. The campground features electrical hook ups for camping and two rental cabins.
