Fungi Foray
JUN 29 2025 12:00 PM
Event Summary
Jackson County Conservation will be housing a traveling exhibit this summer and fall... a fungarium! A fungarium is a collection of dried fungi, fungi art, and fun facts about the mysterious mushrooms found in Iowa. Come attend a short presentation on the fungarium creation, and then follow fungi professionals through the woods at the Maquoketa Caves State Park to find the real deals! Iowa is home to over 50 mushroom species, and they spend most of their life underground. This is a great chance to learn more about our timid toadstools.
This program is in partnership with the Prairie States Mushroom Club, who created the fungarium, and will be leading the hike.
The presentation will be at 12:00 at the Hurstville Interpretive Center and the hike will follow at 1:00PM at the Maquoketa Caves State Park (at picnic shelter A). Transportation not provided.
