Migrating Against the Wind

Event Summary

This program for 4th-6th graders, will focus on why migration matters as well as exploring data on migratory birds that travel through Iowa. This engaging workshop will allow students to understand the challenges a migratory bird faces within an ever-changing climate.  This workshop will include monitoring birds at the bird blind and creating a public awareness poster to take home or have featured at the CEC.

Students will be able to:

  • Tell the difference between weather and climate.
  • Understand the key needs for bird migration.
  • How climate change alters phenology, ecosystems, and temperature.
  • Create public awareness on what we can do to help our migrating birds.

It is required that guardians stay on site for the duration of this program, you may participate, hike, or work on things while the program happens. Students can leave early if needed.
