The Prairie Heritage Center In O'Brien County, Iowa Has An Opportunity To Expand
The O’Brien County Conservation Board has the chance to purchase the piece of land adjacent to the Prairie Heritage Center. This addition would expand the property from the center to the Little Sioux River. The Conservation Board is working with the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation and other conservation agencies to secure grant funding. However, in order to make this project a success we need the financial support of our friends and patrons to raise matching funds for these grants.
Here are some of the key features of this project:
-This purchase would connect Iowa DNR and County Conservation Board areas within the Waterman Prairie Complex.
-The land is currently in the Conservation Reserve Program.
-The property currently includes prairie restoration and food plot areas.
-The purchase would further extend opportunities to canoe/kayak and fish on the Little Sioux River.
-Bald Eagles have been attempting to nest on a tree within this property.
-The area would add to the view shed seen from the Glacial Trail Scenic Byway.
-Hunting, trapping, bird/wildlife watching, and hiking could take place on the addition.
The Little Sioux Valley Conservation Association is currently fundraising through the 2013 Special Edition Calendar that is available at the Prairie Heritage Center and at your local banks in O'Brien County. The Little Sioux Valley Conservation Board, a non-profit organization, is also accepting tax deductible cash donations for this project and many more to come.
