As the first county park acquired by the conservation board, Big Sioux Park continues to provide hunting, fishing, paddling, and boating opportunities on the Big Sioux River. Located one mile north of Akron, this 33 acre park has undergone a recent habitat transformation due to several major floods. Once primarily a river edge grassland, natural succession is transforming Big Sioux Park into a riparian forest complete with maples, cottonwoods, and willows.

Public hunting, following DNR guidelines, is allowed.

Concrete boat ramp and gravel parking lot.

Operating Hours & Seasons

The park is open throughout the year. Gates may be closed at anytime due to poor road conditions, high water levels and during some hunting seasons.
