Event Summary

Step back in time as we visit the Amish and Mennonite community of Kalona. Our day will start at the Kalona Historical Village and Welcome Center coffee and donuts. The first stop will be the Buggy shop. We will discover why there is a one year wait list for these custom designed Amish buggies.  Another stop includes JK Creative Wood & Gifts. This stop offers the chance to see woodworking at its finest and shop for custom furniture, pottery, glass, quilts and other unique handmade gifts.

For lunch we will travel to a Conservative Mennonite home for a wholesome dinner served family style.   Following lunch are demonstrations of candy making from Kalona Chocolates and noodle making at Kalona Noodle.  Then free time to explore the down Antique stores, quilt shops, arts & craft and women’s boutique shops are shops to explore in Kalona.  On the journey back to Des Moines we will stop at the Kinze Innovation Center.

Fee:  $75 /person, includes transportation, meals and tour fees.  Depart from Prairie Meadows NW parking lot 1, Altoona, IA.

Registration deadline:  May 16

Cancellation Policy:  Reservations are fully refundable prior to registration deadline.  After the trip deadline registration may be refunded less the $10 cancellation fee if space can be filled.

Waiting List:   A waiting list will be started when the initial trip is full.  The waiting list gives an indication of interest and is utilized if initial trip participants cancel.
