Backpacking Basics

Event Summary

Have you always wanted to try backpacking but didn’t know where to start? Come and explore the gear needed, get your questions answered, and build confidence in this popular outdoor rec activity. Please bring water, a snack, and dress for the weather. Masks are recommended at all times. We will also be hiking for a short period of time. No prior experience needed, and we'll have all the gear needed for use that day. This program is intended for age 16 and above. 

Our top priority has been and will continue to be the health and well-being of the public and the staff. In response to COVID-19, Story County Conservation programs will adhere to social distancing, smaller group size, increased sanitation, and we recommend face coverings when social distancing is not possible or while indoors. Pre-registration will be required when group size needs to be limited due to the facility or location.
