Polliwogs DPRW (for kids entering Kindergarten)

Event Summary

This camp is for children who will be entering Kindergarten this fall. 

**Due to Ragbrai, the dates have been changed. This camp will run Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday (different from the published Polliwog schedule)

 

Dirt Day What is dirt?  Who lives in dirt?  Today is dirt day, and the earthworms will be our guides to investigate who and what lives in the soil.  We will explore dirt factories, create mud pies, build worm ranches, and dig in the soil. Your child needs to wear clothes, shoes, and socks that can get wet and muddy!  

Rock Day We'll be looking at rocks at McFarland Park.  We'll learn how we use rocks every day, identify our own rock by touch, color, and hardness, build our own rock collection, and then experiment making volcanoes!  

Plant Day Plantastic, today is plant day!  We will learn the parts of plants, investigate how we use plants every day, go on a plant hike, and build with parts of trees!  

Water Day On our last day it’s all about exploring water!  Why is water important to animals and us?  We will take part in water experiments, build aluminum boats, and end our day with a water fight! Your child needs to wear clothes, shoes, and socks that can get very wet!  NO sandals please.    

NOTE: Please provide your child with a snack and water bottle for our breaks. Your child may wear shorts to Polliwogs.  We prefer children to wear shoes and socks --NO sandals.  We are not responsible for lost hats or sunglasses, or water bottles. Story County Conservation staff will not apply bug spray or sun block.  Please remember that Polliwogs camp is Monday-Thursday only.
