    Mallard & Pintail Cottage Rental Agreement

    By your agreement with terms and conditions, you represent that you are 21 years or older and that you are authorized to make a reservation on behalf of the group you have listed. You further agree to assume full responsibility for the acts, negligence or omissions of the members of your group while utilizing said facilities. Additionally, you agree that you have read and understand the CANCELLATION and REFUND POLICIES concerning this reservation, and have also read and understand the CABIN RENTAL AGREEMENT information.

    You are reserving a facility in a Union County Conservation Board Park.  ALL COUNTY PARK RULES AND STATE LAWS ARE ENFORCED. Contact the Union County Conservation Board Office at 641-347-5100 or uccb@unioncountyiowa.gov listed on your reservation email if you have any questions about park rules, policies or special requests.

    Failure to clean up the facility or surrounding area as outlined, or failure to comply with park rules or state laws may result in enforcement action. The Union County Conservation Board may take any legal action necessary to recover damages to county property.

    Absolutely no pets are allowed inside of these cabins.  No smoking is allowed inside these cabins.  No cleaning fish or game is allowed inside of these cabins.  Failure to follow these rules will result in the loss of your damage/cleaning deposit. 

    Check-in time: 4:00 PM or after on the day of arrival

    Check-out time: must occur before 11:00 AM on day of departure

    Checking Into Cabins: Each cottage’s main entry door has a digital number pad lock.  Enter your 4 digit code to unlock the door. 

    Damage/Cleaning Deposit:  There is a $200 damage/cleaning deposit required to rent these cabins.  This deposit must be in the form of a check made out to the Union County Conservation Board and must be received prior to your entry to the cabin.  Checks must be mailed to the Union County Conservation Board at 1577 Creamery Road, Afton, Iowa 50830.   

    Clean-up Procedures:  You are required to clean up the facility and grounds and return them to the condition you received them.  A cleaning list is posted inside the cabin.  Plan to have your facility cleaned and people departed prior to the scheduled 11:00 AM check out time.  All used bedding can be left on beds.  All used towels and washcloths should be put in hamper located in bathroom.  All dishes should be clean and put back in cupboards.  Paper towels, trash bags, broom, vacuum, and cleaning agents will be provided.  Remove all personal items and food from your cabin at the end of your stay. Do not leave items for the next renter to use.   

    Decorations:  Do not decorate or attach items in a way that causes damage (tape, glue, tacks, nails, etc.).

    Parking:  Vehicles are confined to the designated parking areas.  No parking or driving off road ways. 

    Occupancy:  This cabin has a maximum occupancy of 11.  This is the number of people that can be accommodated for the beds available in the cabin and no more than 11 people can occupy this cabin at one time. 

    Refuse:  All refuse must be bagged and taken to the dumpster located in the campground.  Do not leave refuse in fire pits and do not burn trash.

    Cancellation Policy:  Reservations are 100% non-refundable.  If you need to cancel a reservation, you will forfeit 100% of all reservation fees paid.  All cancellations must be made by calling the Union County Conservation Board Office at 641-347-5100.

    Keg Beer: no keg beer is allowed in park.

    Tents and Campers:  No tents or campers are allowed in the cabin area. 

    UNION COUNTY CONSERVATION RESERVES THE RIGHT TO ENTER CABINS IN THE CASE OF EMERGENCY, MAINTENANCE, AND SAFETY ISSUES. IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY CALL 911 OR THE SHERRIFF’S DEPARTMENT AT 641-782-8402.   

    Cancellation Policy

    Cancellation Policy:  Reservations are 100% non-refundable.  If you need to cancel a reservation, you will forfeit 100% of all reservation fees paid.  All cancellations must be made by calling the Union County Conservation Board Office at 641-347-5100.

    Refund Policy

    Refund Policy:  All reservations with the Union County Conservation Board facilities are final.  Reservations are non-refundable unless the following situations occur:

    1.       The National Weather Service has issued severe winter weather conditions and advised against travel. 

    2.      We are unable to provide your facility in operable condition for the date of your event.

    This is a family-style cabin that sleeps 10 and is located a stones throw away from Three Mile Lake.  This cabin features a fully stocked kitchen, smart tv which users can log onto with their own tv subscriptions, and includes all necessary linens for bedrooms and bathrooms. Outside the cabin, there is a covered deck, a concrete pad with fire ring, and a gas grill.  When the lake level rises each cabin will have a boat dock.  The lake is currently 6' low.

    During the months of May, June, July, and August a 7 day (Check-in Friday, check-out following Friday) is required.  For all others months of the year, a two day reservation minimum is required and Friday and Saturday must be reserved together.

    FOR RESERVATIONS DURING THE MONTHS OF JANUARY AND FEBRUARY OF EVERY YEAR YOU MUST CALL THE UNION COUNTY CONSERVATION BOARD OFFICE AT 641-347-5100 FOR RESERVATIONS.

    This cabin is fully furnished with furniture, bedding, towels, and dinnerware.  Renters will need to bring only the essentials (luggage, shampoo, soap, and camping chairs). This cabin sleeps 10

    • Each cabin has two bedrooms and a loft area
    • Bedroom 1 has a queen size bed
    • Bedroom 2 has a queen size bed and a bunk bed
    • The loft has a full size bed and three twin beds
    • Full kitchen with fridge, oven with stove top, microwave, dishwasher, and sink
    • Smart TV's are in the cabin and users can log into their own cable subscription to watch tv (UCCB doesn't provide cable)
    • Clothes washer and dryer
    • One bathroom with a toilet, shower, and sink
    • Outside the cabin is a gas grill and a fire pit

    Fees

    The Cabins can be reserved up to 2 years in advance.  Each must be reserved before 3 days of your arrival, but you can contact UCCB Office to reserve any date that is within the 3-day window of your expected arrival. 

    No Refunds For Any Reason- Per the UCCB Rules and Regulations if you need to cancel a reservation, you will forfeit 100% of all reservation fees paid.  

    Summer Rates- May, June, July, & August $1,680/week

    • Weekly rentals during this time period, Friday to Friday only

    Off Season Rates- September-April 

    • Weekend Rate is $520, Friday & Saturday are combined
    • Weekday Rate is $220, minimum of 2 night stay

    Winter Rates- Same as off season rates but must call UCCB Office to make a reservation for the months of January & February

                                      Notice to Cabin Users and Campers

    Three Mile Lake is currently (on 6/20/25) 10’ low due to the lake renovation project that occurred last year.  The project has been complete since January 2025 but with the sparse precipitation this spring and summer the lake has remained low. 

    The Union County Conservation Board is located in south-central Iowa and his home to the 3350-acre Three Mile Lake Recreation Area. The Union County Conservation Board manages a total of 9 parks, recreation, and wildlife areas encompassing 3,790 acres about the county. Cabin reservation are made through this website by going to the FACILITIES tab to the left.  To make a cabin reservation for January or February, call our office at 641-347-5100.
