Owl-palooza

Event Summary

Help us celebrate International Owl Awareness Day and learn more about Iowa Owls during this open house style event. We will have a variety of activities all day long including presentations to meet the Nature Center Owls, Harlan and Lucia. A bake sale will take place throughout the day to help raise funds for a new raptor building.  

🎉 Event Highlights: 

• 9:00 am to 8:00 pm - Seld-guided Activities
• Read Goodnight Owl by Greg Pizzoli on the Tale Trail (Whitetail Ridge and Loess Loop trails)
• Owl Scavenger Hunt – can you find all the owls inside the Nature Center’s exhibit gallery?
• Bake Sale: proceeds help fund Harlan’s new house
• Harlan & Lucia stickers for sale
• 9:00 am to 3:00 pm
• Owl Pellet Dissection: come learn what an owl pellet is.
• Biofact Station: learn all about owls and check out their wings & talons up close
• Make & Take Owl Craft: make a fun owl craft to take home
• 10:00 am and 1:00 pm
• Guided Hike: enjoy a hike through owl habitat with our summer naturalists
•  3:00 pm and 7:00 pm
•   Owl Presentations: Learn about Iowa owls and meet our educational ambassador Barred Owl, Harlan and our Screech Owl, Lucia up close.
