Summary Description

This position will assist the Community Engagement Coordinator with networking, written and digital content creation, and community involvement. This position will be available for the 2026-2027 school year for up to 16 hours/week. Work hours may include some evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

  • Expands and refines Story County Conservation's online presence.
  • Plans and creates social media content and monitors online activities involving Story County Conservation.
  • Creates and edits outreach videos.
  • Identifies new outlets for spreading Story County Conservation's message.
  • Provides hands-on assistance with electronic and printed newsletters, brochures, maps, flyers, and websites.
  • Performs other outreach-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED with coursework in English, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or related field, or equivalent combination of education or experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

General knowledge of word processing, PowerPoint and Microsoft Excel.  Some knowledge of comprehending social media analytics, videography and photography, and multimedia capture and presentation tools.  General knowledge of standard office equipment (computer, fax, telephone, copier, etc.),video cameras, digital cameras, and standard office software (spreadsheets, word processing, presentations, databases, etc.). Some knowledge of press releases, brochures, written documents, and grammatical and spell checking. Firm understanding of available tools and platforms in social media.  Ability to organize, prioritize, multi- task and meet deadlines.

Additional Information

  • Significant knowledge of available tools and platforms in social media/communications, as well as current trends (MailChimp, Meta Business Suite, reels, live videos, etc.) Excellent visual media skills (photography, video, graphic design, etc.), plus working knowledge of tools to create those materials (GoPro, video software, Adobe Illustrator, Canva, etc.) Effective written and oral communication, proofreading/grammar, and editing skills
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner with media and community contacts
  • Self-motivated, good organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, multi-task, meet deadlines, and work independently

Physical & Environmental Characteristics

This work requires the regular exertion of up to 10 pounds of force; work regularly requires sitting and speaking or hearing, frequently requires walking, using hands to finger, handle or feel and reaching with hands and arms and occasionally requires standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling, pushing or pulling and lifting; work has standard vision requirements; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions in sound; work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data; work occasionally requires exposure to outdoor weather conditions; work is generally in a moderately noisy location (e.g. business office, light traffic).
