Description

Permanent, full-time position: Park Ranger / Natural Resource Technician performs a variety of duties in the Conservation Board’s campgrounds, parks, and wildlife areas.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES: Implements the protection and enhancement of the unique natural areas and open spaces of Floyd County. Park Ranger is expected to patrol and handle a multitude of issues including the compliance with Floyd County Conservation Ordinances in the parks and campgrounds. Plans and performs park and facility maintenance, cleaning, and repairs. Maintains vehicles and equipment. Operates a
variety of equipment including tractors, mowers, chainsaw, fire-fighting equipment, and power tools. Performs vegetation management, including planting, mowing, pruning, prescribed burning and chemical application.

QUALIFICATIONS: Requires a (1) Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in conservation, natural resources, outdoor recreation, wildlife biology, park management or (2) Associate’s Degree in outdoor recreation, parks management, natural resources or other applicable field; or (3) High School diploma or GED with two years of experience related to the essential duties and responsibilities list. Possession of a valid driver’s license. Ability to obtain additional certifications, including but not limited to pesticide applicator’s license, Class A CDL, and S130/S190 Wildland Fire Training. Ability to perform heavy physical labor.

WAGE: $47,000 - $57,000. Full-time county sick leave, vacation, holiday, and insurance benefits included. Successful candidate will be subject to background checks and drug screening. On site residency included.
