2026 Marshall County Conservation - Seasonal Conservation Aide (1 Position)

 

Position Description:
Marshall County Conservation is seeking one Seasonal Conservation Aide to assist permanent staff in managing and maintaining 3,458 acres of parks, trails, prairies, wetlands, and forests in central Iowa. This position may also assist the Naturalist with program preparation, materials, and occasional presentations.

 

Duties include, but are not limited to: mowing, painting, litter removal, general carpentry, prairie maintenance, tree planting and pruning, and reporting or repairing safety hazards. The Conservation Aide will interact with the public by offering assistance and providing information, maintain positive working relationships with staff, and attend mandatory safety training and staff meetings. Work will involve the operation of tractors, chainsaws, lawnmowers, and other power tools.

 

Qualifications:
Applicants must be at least 18 years old, have no felony convictions, and possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record. Candidates should be pursuing or have an interest in a degree in wildlife, biology, animal ecology, natural resource management, forestry, or a related field.

 

The position requires the ability to routinely stand, walk, sit, kneel, stoop, balance, climb, and safely operate a variety of hand tools, power tools, mowers, and small tractors. Applicants must be able to lift up to 75 pounds, follow written and oral instructions, and work independently with minimal supervision. Outdoor work will include exposure to dust, dirt, chemicals, noise, severe weather conditions, and environmental elements such as mosquitoes, ticks, plants, pollens, and fungi.

 

Work Schedule:
The positions period runs from late May through late August, with flexible start and end dates based on the applicant’s availability. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., averaging 40 hours per week. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required. Community college dorm housing arrangements may be available.

 

Compensation:
$14.00 per hour
