Marshall County Conservation Board
Conservation Technician
Employment Status: Full-time regular. Non-exempt under FLSA.
Work Schedule: Nonstandard work week. Generally, 40 hours per week during a seven (7) day period. May be required to work weekends, evenings, overnight, additional hours, or to change hours with minimal notice due to operational needs. Under the general supervision of the executive and the immediate supervision of the Operation Supervisor, the applicant should be able to work independently, with minimal or no supervision.
Requirements and Certifications: The applicant must have a 2-year or 4-year degree in the natural sciences from an accredited college or university or a relevant combination of education and work experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.
The applicant must possess a valid driver’s license and be physically able to work in extreme conditions such as temperature, humidity, steep terrain, etc. The employee may be exposed to severe weather conditions and other outdoor elements such as mosquitos, ticks, plants, pollens, and fungi.
The full-time Conservation Technician will follow the Marshall County Personnel Policy. All benefits and rules outlined in the Marshall County Personnel Policy shall be applied to the full-time Conservation Technician position.
Upon hire or within one year, the applicant will be required to have a Class A CDL, Pesticide Applicator’s License, CPR, First Aid, AED, Stop the Bleed, and S-130 and S-190 Fire Training.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: The applicant must be physically able to use and maintain mowers, trucks, tractors, native plant drills, augers, tree planters, tree trimmers, chainsaws, boats, motors, sprayers, and various power tools. The applicant must be able to perform essential equipment maintenance. The applicant must have basic knowledge in construction, plumbing, masonry, painting, metal work, electricity, and carpentry. The applicant must know Iowa’s flora, fauna, and ecosystems, especially those species found in areas managed by Marshall County Conservation. Knowledge of natural resource management practices and Iowa’s natural history is essential.
Pay: $21.25/hour– $24.00/month plus full-time benefits, including Health, Dental, Vision, IPERS, Short- and long-term Disability, Life Insurance, Paid Holidays, Vacation, Uniforms, & Sick Leave.

Qualifications
A 4-year degree in natural sciences from an accredited college or a 2-year degree with training/work-related experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the essential job duties of the position.
