Description
Full time position under the general supervision of the Director. Responsibilities include Park Ranger duties at parks and campgrounds in Howard County as well as maintenance and management of HCCB areas, maintenance of equipment and supervision of seasonal employees. Some assistance with interpretive programs and other tasks as assigned. General knowledge of equipment operation, chainsaw, weed trimmer, basic carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and landscaping skills. Recommends and implements enhancements in natural resources and recreational management, including timber stand improvement, prairie and tree planting, invasive species control and prairie burns. Answers questions and provides information to the public on park services. Canidate must possess a valid Iowa Driver's license with a satisfactory driving record. Must possess or be able to obtain Iowa Pesticide Applicators Certification. Must have good public and human relation skills. Position requires working a non-standard workweek during the camping season that includes nights, weekends and holidays. Qualifications
Requirements to include associate degree from an accredited college in natural resources or related field, or equivalent work experience. Must be Iowa Law Enforcement Academy Certified or able to meet minimum qualifications for certification.
