2026 Marshall County Conservation – Vegetation Management Aide (1 Positions)

Position Description:
The Vegetation Management Aide performs technical work related to planting native vegetation, controlling brush and invasive species, mowing, applying herbicides, and completing related duties as assigned. Work is performed under moderate supervision of the Natural Resource Manager and the Marshall County Weed Commissioner. Duties include eliminating sight hazards in county right-of-ways; seeding right-of-ways and natural areas using drill or broadcast seeders; controlling noxious weeds and brush using chemical spray units; mowing right-of-ways and natural areas to manage invasive vegetation; and performing invasive species management using chainsaws and related equipment.

The position is responsible for composing and maintaining accurate records of operations, performing routine maintenance and minor repairs on vehicles, tractors, mowers, seed drills, and other equipment, and assisting with the upkeep of facility buildings and grounds. The work involves regular operation of motor vehicles and equipment and frequent outdoor work in varying weather conditions.

Qualifications:
Applicants must be able to perform all essential job functions safely and effectively. Required knowledge and skills include general understanding of herbicide labels and application practices; familiarity with chainsaws, brush chippers, sprayers, UTVs, tractors, and PTO-driven rotary mowers; and the ability to read equipment manuals, maps, and basic plans. The position requires maintaining accurate records, following written and verbal instructions, identifying plant species, operating standard office equipment, and learning department-specific tools and software.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license. A Commercial Pesticide Applicator License (Core and Category 6) must be obtained within one month of hire. Work Zone Safety training and Chainsaw Safety and Maintenance training are required within six months of hire.

Work Schedule:
This position runs from late May through late August, with flexible start and end dates based on the applicant’s availability. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., averaging 40 hours per week. Work hours may vary due to weather conditions, and early morning, evening, or occasional weekend work may be required based on operational needs.

Compensation:
$17.25 per hour.
