Job Summary:

  Under supervision of the Executive Director, performs administrative duties, material processing, customer service and maintenance work, as part of operations of the Regional Collection Center and as part of the overall operation of the Conservation Office.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Waits on customers to provide service pertaining to the collection and processing of recyclable and hazardous materials.
  2. Uses tractors and other equipment to move, process, unload and load green-waste materials.
  3. Off-loads recyclable and hazardous materials from customer’s vehicles.
  4. Separates, packs and loads recyclable and hazardous materials for storage and shipment.
  5. Grades/moves gravel, dirt and snow in order to provide facility access by operating tractors, loaders and other equipment.
  6. Provides basic preventive maintenance on motor vehicles and equipment by changing oil, lubricating, etc.
  7. Performs maintenance and cleanup of buildings by using paint, mops, brooms, pressure washer, squeegee, hammer, screwdriver, power saws, drills and other power equipment.
  8. Operates tractors, trucks and material handling equipment as necessary to complete job tasks.
  9. Using computer system, responsible for office tasks associated with records for material collection and received revenues.
  10. Assists customers with proper identification of household hazardous waste.
  11. Responsible for collection, identification, processing and documenting of hazardous waste.
  12. Responsible for filing certifications and permits for operations under federal, state and county regulations.  
  13. Responsible for working within budget limitations of annual expenses and revenues.
  14. Promoting of recycling to local public and other organizations.
  15. Be a self-starter, motivated individual with a great work ethic.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  1. Knowledge of basic maintenance as related to servicing motor vehicles and other equipment.
  2. Knowledge of techniques/methods and tools associated with carpentry, electrical and/or construction techniques
  3. Ability to operate trucks, tractors and other heavy equipment.
  4. Ability to work outdoors in inclement weather.
  5. Knowledge of computers and associated programs.
  6. Knowledge of properties of hazardous materials.
  7. Knowledge of mechanics associated with household appliances.    

 

Special Qualifications:

    Any work experience providing an opportunity to acquire the skills and to perform the tasks described above, qualifications not required to apply, will provide the training needed for certification.

Physical Abilities:

  1. Lift, carry, push and/or pull items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  2. Hear and speak to exchange information in person and on the telephone.
  3. See to read a variety of materials.
  4. Possess dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate tools and materials as needed to accomplish assigned tasks.
  5. Sitting and/or standing for extended periods.

 

Working Conditions:

Involves a wide variety of indoor and outdoor work, including exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity and chemical hazard.  The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Qualifications

Possession of a current valid driver's license. Ability to routinely lift 50 pounds, perform physical labor in all types of weather conditions, and be exposed to dust, fumes and loud noises. Ability to operate tractors, power and hand tools.
