Description
Employment status: Full time regular. Non-exempt under FLSA. Work schedule: Nonstandard work week. Generally 40 hours per week during a 7 day period. May be required to work weekends, evenings, overnight, additional hours or to change hours with minimal notice because of operational needs. Under the general supervision of the director.
Duties: Develop, plan, schedule, and present educational programs; design and construct nature center displays and plans; assist with resource management; design kiosk information and brochures; produce a quarterly newsletter, promote all MCCB operations.
Applicants should have the ability to work with minimal to no supervision, establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, groups, and co-workers, handle multiple tasks and various priorities, use computer programs, and work a flexible schedule and additional time as needed.
Knowledge of Iowa’s flora, fauna and ecosystems, especially of those managed by the Marshall County Conservation Board desired. Knowledge of natural lands management practices, English language and grammar and safe work ethic is required. Develop, plan, and conduct environmental educational information, and interpretive programs for the county school districts, special populations, and senior groups. Maintain environmental educational materials, all living and non-living displays and their equipment. Provide resource information materials and equipment to teachers, youth and adult leaders, service groups, the general public, and other organizations and agencies. Develop, plan, and conduct informational and special event programming for the general public. Assist with the development of multi-media materials, informational brochures, displays, exhibits, flyers, news releases, and newsletters to promote environmental education activities and programs and MCCB operations. Assist with all youth programming. Assist with staffing Nature Center front desk and reception area. Assist with daily office and park functions such as answering the phones, photocopying, computer work, filing, office upkeep, grounds keeping, etc. Assist in performing routine upkeep, cleaning, and maintenance of the Nature Center, and all other MCCB areas as directed.
Qualifications, Requirements and Certifications: Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Education, Natural Resources, Outdoor Recreation, Animal Ecology or related field and accumulation of two years of relative experience working with the public; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provide the required knowledge and abilities. Knowledge of general office procedures including the ability to operate a personal computer, printer, FAX machine, cash register, etc.; good record keeping skills; ability to communicate tactfully and courteously with others, ability to communicate orally and effectively to groups and individuals in both formal and informal settings. The ability to get to and from job sites, pass pre-employment physical, ability to work weekends, holidays, and evenings as needed, the ability to effectively train/orient volunteers, students, and employees. Must be certified or have the ability to become certified within 6 months of hire in; Certified as Iowa DNR hunter safety instructor. Wild lands fire training S-130/190 certification not required but beneficial Iowa Class D Chauffer’s permit. Applicant must also possess a valid driver’s license, have the ability to get to and from the work-site, and be physically able to work in extreme conditions (extreme temperatures, humidity, steep terrain, etc.). The employee will be subject to extreme weather conditions, noise levels, pitches, vibrations, dust, fumes, and exposed to outdoor elements such as insects including mosquitoes, ticks, and various plants, pollens, and fungi. The full time naturalist position will follow the Marshall County Personnel Policy. All benefits and rules set forth in the Marshall County Personnel Policy shall be applied to the full time naturalist position.
Salary Range: $32,000-$35,000 , depending on experience and qualifications. Uniforms & standard co. benefits.

Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited four(4) year college or university with major course work in environmental education, natural resources, or a related field.
