     High School Diploma or equivalent                     

     Ability to obtain Commercial Pesticide Applicator’s License within 6 months of employment

     Ability to obtain S130 & S190 Wildland Fire Training Certification (for prescribed burns)

 

SALARY MATRIX (The maximum rate will be adjusted annually according to the budget decisions made). Bold amount is employee’s current rate of pay.

PURPOSE OF POSITION

 

Under supervision of the Executive Director the Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the maintenance and operation of all areas under the jurisdiction of the Washington County Conservation Board (WCCB).

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

 

Provides supervision of and technical service to all part-time and seasonal employees, as well as volunteers and community service workers (as needed).

 

Approve time-off requests for seasonal staff.

 

Provide supervision to Ranger Technician’s in regards to any maintenance related tasks.

 

Assign daily maintenance tasks to applicable WCCB staff and volunteers.

 

Responsible for general maintenance of all areas under the jurisdiction of the WCCB.

 

Expected to carry out arduous tasks without supervision.

 

Responsible for light maintenance of all WCCB equipment.

 

Willingness and ability to operate all machinery, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance & development of WCCB facilities.

 

Responsible for maintenance of shop and other work areas, and keeping areas in an attractive and safe manner, which includes knowledge and compliance of OSHA regulations. Also responsible for assuring the rest of WCCB’s properties are managed in a safe and attractive manner.

 

Responsible for inspection and maintenance of playgrounds, and keeping areas in an attractive and safe manner, which includes knowledge and compliance with OSHA regulations and compliance with insurance company.

 

Responsible for keeping accurate time sheets to be submitted to the Executive Director bi-weekly, and confirmed by county Auditor’s Office.

 

Assists Park visitors with programs, policies, or facilities.

 

Adheres and abides by the personnel policy of Washington County, subject to change.

 

Prohibits and prevents smoking and alcohol consumption in all WCCB shops and vehicles.

 

Assist Ranger Technicians with Marr Park campground registration.

 

***Supervision of Ranger Technicians does not extend to any area other than that of the maintenance variety. All law enforcement related areas of supervision shall be handled by the Executive Director.

 

MINIMUM PHYSICAL AND MENTAL ABILITIES REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

Physical Requirements

 

Considerable field work is involved in this position which includes working on & around trucks, tractors, vehicles, and power & hand tools of all types. Skilled in the operation of vehicles, equipment, and tools used in maintenance and repair tasks. Will be subject to extreme weather conditions, noise levels and pitches, vibrations, smoke, and dust. Position may require carrying items of various weights, occasional heavy lifting (60 pounds or more), stooping, bending, walking, standing, reaching, and climbing in conjunction with the use of materials and tools for the completion of necessary tasks. Ability to hear, speak, taste, and smell at high levels. Vision must include near acuity, far acuity, depth perception, and field of view. Requires regular movement of fingers and hands in grasping objects, regular movement of arms and torso in driving and operating various equipment, and regular use of feet and legs in various operations.

 

Mathematical Ability

 

Proficient in basic arithmetic skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division).

 

Language Ability & Interpersonal Communications

 

Applies knowledge of relevant statutes and board policies to situations encountered in work. Ability to interact effectively with the general public, other employees, government officials, landowners, and farmers.

 

 

 

Environmental Adaptability

 

Regular exposure to seasonal temperature extremes. Regular exposure to occupational hazards involved in operating a variety of mechanical equipment, hand and power tools in various maintenance/repair functions.

Qualifications

Age 18 or older, high school diploma or equivalent, degree or equivalent on the job experience. Pesticide applicator’s license within 6 months of employment, valid Iowa CDL, as well as the S130 & S190 wildland fire training.
