Salary $18.00- $20.00 DOE/hour, 40 hours/week

Flexible start and end date, roughly May-November

Duties & Responsibilities

Duties include, but aren’t limited to:

·       Assist with all aspects of ecological restoration and management of prairie, wetlands, and oak savanna through prescribed fire, herbicide application, tree and shrub removal, and other tasks as assigned

·         Assist with park, facility, and equipment maintenance, cleaning, and repairs

·         Assist with all aspects of the integrated roadside vegetation management program

·         Assist with trail maintenance on hard surface and undeveloped trails

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

·         Possess an interest in conserving local ecosystems

·         Possess the ability to walk, stand, kneel, crouch, reach, stoop, and climb to accomplish tasks

·         Possess the basic ability to operate mowers, farm equipment and highway and off-road vehicles

·         Possess the basic ability to safely operate power tools, chain saws, and weed eaters

·         Possess the ability to work without direct supervision

·         Possess the ability to regularly lift 50 lbs.

·         Possess the ability to communicate effectively with peers and the public

·         Possess the ability to work in difficult weather conditions when necessary

·         Possess a willingness to learn on the job

This is a seasonal position under the supervision of the Natural resource manager. Some weekend and holiday work rotation may be required.

Qualifications

· Must be 18 years of age or older and possess a valid driver’s license · Possess basic knowledge of Iowa ecosystems, plants, and animals
