Summary Description

This position is responsible for supervising the maintenance, operations, and programs of assigned county conservation lands and facilities. This position performs varied administrative, management, supervisory, and technical maintenance functions.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

Supervises the operation, inspection, maintenance, and improvement of county park system lands and facilities.
Performs inspections and performs minor repairs immediately; identifies and corrects hazards, secures necessary equipment to complete repairs; advises supervisors of special problems.
Supervises and evaluates the work of assigned staff; recommends personnel actions related to selection, performance review, scheduling, and disciplining; administers personnel and related policies and procedures.
Participates as a member of the Conservation management team, including participating in strategic/operational planning, budget development and management, problem identification and resolution, and recommending and implementing strategies to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the delivery of services and programming.
Provides daily maintenance assignments to staff and monitors performance to ensure timely, safe, and effective completion.
Maintains records of work performed.
Assists in the development of management plans for park areas.
Serves as liaison between staff, department management, and the County Conservation Board.
Coordinates activities and programs with other agencies, county departments, and the general public.
Develops budget recommendations and monitors approved budget; keeps track of real time project/budgeted time cost to ensure budgetary compliance.
Supervises the operation and maintenance of grounds and facilities related to swimming, camping, boating, picnicking, hiking, and concessions.
Performs related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
Knowledge of state laws and local ordinances governing park and recreational areas.
Knowledge of the common practices, tools, terminology, and safety precautions for building, park, and equipment maintenance.
Knowledge of the use and characteristics of common building and park equipment and tools, including trucks, tractors, mowers, brush chippers, chain saws, firefighting equipment, and power tools.
Knowledge of county geography.
Knowledge of natural resource conservation principles and practices.
Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs.
Skill in enforcing park rules and regulations.
Skill in preparing detailed reports.
Skill in the operation of grounds and facilities maintenance tools and equipment.
Skill in analyzing situations and in developing solutions.
Skill in maintaining effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders.

Qualifications

Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.
Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years’ experience or service.

Qualifications
