4-H Environmental Education Naturalist
Adair
County, Iowa
This
position will be supervised by the Director for the Adair County Conservation
Board.
Description: This 450 Hour
AmeriCorps member will serve approximately mid-May through August 31, 2023. 40-hours
per week. No benefits. Start and end dates are flexible.
Duties:
Plans, develops, coordinates, and presents environmental education and interpretive programs for schools, youth and adult groups, and the general public. Plan
and conduct summer day camps for youth. Plan
and conduct public education programs and volunteer service learning
activities. Assist staff with routine habitat management such as shrub removal and trail work. Provide
occasional routine park maintenance with other ACCB staff. Participate
with public informational activities as assigned.
Essential
Skills: High
School diploma, GED equivalent or be in the process of obtaining either. Basic
knowledge of natural environment and local plants and animals; experience with
children preferred; self-starting ability to serve with minimal supervision;
computer literate; ability to communicate tactfully, courteously and
effectively with others; The applicant must possess a current, valid driver’s
license; ability to get to and from job site in all types of weather; ability
to lift up to 50 pounds; ability to serve some evenings and weekends.
Shift: The AmeriCorps
4-H Environmental Education Program Specialist will serve no more than 40 hours
per workweek. (Non-routine including some weekends, evenings and holidays).
General hours: 7:30-4:00pm Monday-Friday, with flexibility to serve evenings
and weekends as programs require.
Qualifications: High School diploma, GED
equivalent must be obtained before receiving education award. The applicant
must possess a current, valid driver’s license; can get to and from the service-site;
ability to use hand and small power tools and be physically able to work in
extreme environmentally rigorous situations (heat, humidity, steep terrain).
Candidate must pass physical and drug screening and background checks prior to starting
position.
