Job Responsibilities Technician Duties (~2/3 of time):

·         Assist with the maintenance, restoration, and enhancement of prairies, wetlands, forests, and other natural habitats. ·         Operate and maintain equipment such as chainsaws, mowers, tractors, ATVs/UTVs, sprayers, and hand tools. ·         Conduct invasive species control using mechanical, chemical, and prescribed fire methods. ·         Monitor wildlife populations, vegetation, and habitat conditions through field surveys and data collection. ·         Implement erosion control measures and assist with shoreline, trail, and habitat improvement projects. ·         Apply herbicides and other land management treatments in accordance with label directions and safety requirements. ·         Assist with prescribed burns, including firebreak preparation, ignition, and mop-up. ·         Repair and maintain park facilities, trails, fences, signage, and public use areas. ·         Perform routine maintenance on tools, vehicles, and equipment. ·         Assist with environmental education and outreach programs for schools, community groups, and the general public. ·         Provide information and assistance to park visitors in a courteous and professional manner. ·         Complete required reports, logs, and records for projects and activities. ·         Work independently and as part of a team, sometimes in remote outdoor environments and in varying weather conditions.        

Ranger Duties (~1/3 of time):

·         Patrol ICCB properties and enforce laws and regulations. ·         Provide visitor assistance, ensure public safety, and administer first aid when necessary. ·         Investigate incidents of vandalism and theft on ICCB-managed lands. ·         Collect user fees and distribute maps, brochures, and other materials. ·         Perform routine and emergency maintenance across ICCB areas. ·         Open and close Lake Iowa Park & other properties as assigned. ·         Monitor facility and grounds conditions and report issues or needs. ·         Stay current with Conservation Board policies and Director directives. ·         Attend meetings, training sessions, and represent ICCB at events as needed.  

 

Qualifications

Required:

·         Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources, Outdoor Recreation, Ecology, or a related field. ·         Minimum of two years of relevant experience working with the public in conservation, parks, or other relevant area. ·         Strong knowledge of Iowa’s native flora, fauna, and ecosystems. ·         Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities. ·         Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. ·         Proficient in basic computer programs and office software. ·         Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable under county liability coverage. ·         Physically capable of working in all weather conditions and challenging terrain.

Preferred:

·         Experience with law enforcement or patrolling duties in a park or natural resource setting. ·         Background in interpretive signage or program development. ·         Familiarity with lands managed by the Iowa County Conservation Board. ·         S-130 & S-190 Coursework completed.

Special Requirements

·         Current certification in CPR and First Aid, or ability to obtain upon hire. ·         Valid Commercial Pesticide Applicator’s License or ability to obtain within 6 months. ·         Willingness to work flexible hours, including some weekends, evenings, and holidays. ·         Valid Commercial Drivers License or ability to obtain within 6 months.

Salary & Benefits

Salary Range: $39,520 – $51,000 annually, based on education and experience.
