2026 Marshall County Conservation - Seasonal Naturalist Intern (1 Positions)
Position Description:
Marshall County Conservation is seeking one Seasonal Naturalist Intern to assist the Naturalist in developing and presenting interpretive programs for schools, campgrounds, summer camps, the general public, and other groups. The intern may also help coordinate special events, design and construct interpretive displays, and prepare publicity materials such as news releases, social media posts, and radio reports. Additional responsibilities may include occasional office work, cleaning, and general maintenance. Interns may assist with the upkeep of the Conservation Center's displays, educational supplies, and surrounding grounds.
Qualifications:
Applicants must be enrolled in or have completed coursework toward a degree in parks and recreation, wildlife biology, ecology, natural resource management, education, or a related field. Relevant experience may be considered in place of formal education. Candidates should have a strong interest in educating youth and adults about the natural world. A valid driver’s license is required, along with the ability to obtain a chauffeur’s license. Applicants must be able to routinely stand, walk, sit, kneel, stoop, balance, climb, and safely operate various hand and power tools. The position requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, follow written and oral instructions, and work independently.
Outdoor work will include exposure to dust, dirt, chemicals, noise, severe weather conditions, and environmental elements such as mosquitoes, ticks, plants, pollens, and fungi. Interns must be willing to research and learn about the natural history of the area and have general knowledge of outdoor recreation, including hiking, biking, kayaking, and orienteering. Applicants should have basic teaching skills, the ability to communicate effectively with individuals and groups of all ages, and the ability to operate computers and audiovisual equipment for program delivery. First Aid and CPR certification are preferred but not required.
Work Schedule:
The internship period runs from late May through late August, with flexible start and end dates based on the applicant’s availability. The typical schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., averaging 40 hours per week. Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required.
Compensation:
$14.00 - $15.00 per hour, depending on prior experience.
