Job Description:
The Naturalist Intern is a seasonal position that tentatively runs from May through August, with flexibility around school schedules. This position will work with all Harrison County Conservation staff and functions (primarily the Naturalist) and reports to Willow Lake Recreation Area each day. This position receives a wage of $13.50/hour with the expectation of a 40-hour work week. Some holiday, weekend, and evening hours are required. HOUSING MAY BE AVAILABLE
Duties and Responsibilities:
This position will assist the Naturalist with summer camps; library programs; public programs; cleaning and maintenance of the nature center amphibians, reptiles, and fish; working with all ages of children and adults; and other duties as assigned. The Naturalist Intern will be expected to work some weekends/holidays Memorial-Labor Day as a greeter at the Willow Lake Nature Center.
Essential Skills:
The Naturalist Intern should have the ability to work independently and in a group setting. They must also be able to maintain professionalism and integrity while working independently or under varying types of supervision. Being able to work with all ages of people especially children, comfortable speaking to an audience, reliable and dependable, good at following instructions, and experience with computers/software programs and social media a plus.
Preferences:
Preference may be given to applicants who have entered or plan to pursue a degree in natural science. Internships may qualify for college credit. Successful applicants must pass a pre-employment physical test.
Qualifications
Applicants must be at least 16 years of age and have a valid driver's license with dependable transportation. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with coworkers, supervisors, and the general public are important.
