Summary:

Full-time position (40 Hours/Week) under the general supervision of the Ringgold County Conservation Board. The Executive Director oversees the day-to-day activities of a multi-faceted conservation program that includes park management, outdoor recreation, natural resources management, environmental education, land/water management and wildlife/fishery programs.

The Executive Director serves as the chief advisor to the Conservation Board and is responsible for developing the Board’s strategic plan, managing the budget, implementing Board policies, supervising staff, and interacting effectively with a wide variety of local and regional officials, advisory board members, and the general public.

Special duties include but not limited to the operation of park amenities, providing environmental education programming, enforcing Conservation Board rules and regulations and promoting good public relations. The employee must be able to lift 50 pounds on a regular basis. This position requires a non-standard work week, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Work experience and education in conservation or park management fields is required. Ringgold County Conservation is an equal opportunity employer.  There will be a 6-month probationary period for the successful applicant.

•           Direct the activities of the employer under the guidelines and requirements of the enabling County Conservation Law found in the Code of Iowa.

•           Recommend to the employer various alternatives as a means of establishing policy.

•           Implement the policy decisions of the employer.

•           Officially represent the employer at meetings or functions requiring such representation.

•           Maintain the office of the employer located at 2205 210th street, Mount Ayr, Iowa, along with records and means necessary for the efficient, orderly, and successful operation of the agency.

•           Perform the tasks to employer activities as determined by official action.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

·         Responsible for supervising PPT, AmeriCorps, seasonal staff and volunteers.

·         Timely, reliable and consistent physical attendance is an essential function of this position.

·         Develop and manage an annual operating budget

·         Manage, Sustain and Improve 9 parks, trails and wildlife areas encompassing over 1,000 acres

·         Perform diverse tasks associated with the planning, development and maintenance of the county’s parks, trails, wildlife areas and equipment. 

·         Responsible for recreational programs and the enhancement of wildlife habitat for public lands. 

·         Present educational programs to various groups both students and adults on wildlife and wildlife conservation and other subjects associated with parks, trails and land conservation. 

·         Grant research and grant writing

·         Maintain Conservation Equipment and Facilities

·         Enforcement of Park Rules and Regulations

·         Social Media and Mycountyparks.com Website Maintenance

·         Manage Online MCP Reservation System for Camping/Shelters/Cabins.

·         Marketing, Fundraising and Event Planning

·         Manage, operate, staff and make improvements for the Dragoon Trace Nature Center

·         Other duties as determined by the Conservation Board

Minimum Qualifications - (Education and Experience):

·         Bachelor’s degree in related field with preferred 4 years of management experience.

·         Director must reside in Ringgold County

·         Applicant must be able to pass a standard county physical, background check and drug screening.

·         Valid Iowa driver’s license

 

Preferred Qualifications (Successful Applicant Must be willing to Procure).

·         CPR & First Aid Certification

·         S-130/S-190/L-180 Wildland Fire Training

·         Human Trafficking Awareness for Lodging Providers Certification

 

Physical Demands:

·         Standing – Approximately more than 2/3 of on-the-job time.

·         Walking – Approximately more than 2/3 of on-the-job time.

·         Sitting – Approximately less than 1/3 of on-the-job time.

·         Use of hands to finger, handle or feel – greater than 2/3 of on-the-job time.

·         Reaching with hands and arms – greater than 2/3 of on-the-job time.

·         Climbing or balancing – Approximately less than 1/3 of on-the-job time.

·         Stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling – greater than 2/3 of on-the-job time.

·         Weight lifted/Force exerted – Occasionally requires lifting objects up to 100 pounds.

·         May travel for position up to 25% of the time.

·         Works majority of the time in outdoor weather conditions under common weather situations including heat, cold, and inclement weather

 

SALARY:  $45,000.00 - $60,000.00 (dependent on experience and qualifications). Benefits include: work vehicle, department cell phone, standard county insurance, annual uniform stipend, workers comp insurance and prorated sick leave and vacation.
