Description

Description: This is a permanent full-time position under the direct supervision of the Monona County Conservation Director, responsible for maintenance, and operation of 17 county parks, wildlife areas and other natural areas in Monona County. Recommends and implements, enhancements in natural resources and recreational management, including timber stand improvement, prairie and tree planting, invasive species control, and prairie burns. Answers questions and provides information to public on park services. Responsible for general parks and equipment maintenance.

Qualifications:  Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year school or a combination of education and experience with major course work in conservation or a natural resources related field.  Candidate must possess a valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record (verified) and possess or be able to obtain class A CDL. Must possess or be able to obtain Pesticide Applicators certification. Skills and abilities include; General knowledge of mechanical, plumbing and carpentry skills; general park grounds and facilities maintenance skill, knowledge of proper safety and procedures/occupational hazards associated with maintenance/repairs of building and grounds. Ability to safely operate equipment such as power tools, tractors, weed eaters, chainsaws, chipper, trucks and the ability to perform strenuous physical labor such as moving picnic tables, construction activities, and forest related work in rough/uneven terrain and under any type of weather condition, Ability to resolve disputes/conflicts with the use of diplomacy, tact and persuasion; effective communication skill and the ability to use discretion and independent judgment; and ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends and holidays.

Salary/Benefits:  Salary commensurate with experience $19.00-23.00.00 per hr., plus full county benefits.  Must be able to meet minimum qualifications for certification through the ILEA and pass a pre-employment physical. A Law Enforcement Certified Officer preferred.
