Description
The Park Technician will join a dedicated team tasked with managing 41 parks and natural areas spread across Buchanan County. If you enjoy working outside, maintaining parks and managing habitat, this is the position for you!

- Patrols parks and public access areas and observes designated land areas and facilities to ensure that facilities and property are used consistent with Board policies, rules and regulations, and State statutes.
- Provides general information to the public concerning area and facilities use.
- Registers campers and collects fees.
- Ensures visitors follow established rules and regulations.
- Operates and maintains machinery, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance/repair of facilities and premises including exhibits, grounds, signs, buildings, sidewalks, roads, fences, and related devices, garbage removal, cleanup, and related functions.
- Plants trees, shrubs, forbs, and grasses.
- Sprays and removes unwanted plants.
- Ensures improved timber stands through forestry management.
- Conducts projects relating to soil erosion, flood control, trails, roads, etc.
- Provides for the feeding and care of live animals in the wild animal exhibit; cleans out pens and manure pits.
- Provides supervision and coordination to part-time and seasonal workers, and coordinates work with park rangers and conservation technicians.
- Answers the telephone, completes forms and incident reports.
- Attends classes and seminars to keep abreast of program developments.
- Participates with other program staff in educational operational tasks as directed.
- Conducts prescribed burns as part of ongoing prairie and forest management.
Qualifications
Associate or Bachelor's Degree, Two years field work (preferred), At hire or within 12 months: Class A CDL (Air Brakes/No Trailer Restrictions), At hire or within 6 months: Pesticide Applicators License (1A,2,6), NWCG S130/S190, CPR/First Aid
