Description
The purpose of this position is to
assist the Roadside Manager in implementing a comprehensive roadside vegetation
management plan for Fayette County. The
Plan includes establishing and maintaining native vegetation, controlling weeds
and woody vegetation, and providing erosion control to protect water quality.
Position requires a two year college
degree and one year experience in a natural resources or conservation field or
equivalent combination of education, experience and training which provides the
required knowledge, skills and abilities.
*Must be 18 and
possess a class A CDL with airbrake and tanker endorsement or the ability to
obtain one within 60 days of hire.
*
Certification as a public pesticide applicator in category 6 and 1A within 30
days of hire
*Reside in
Fayette County within 6 months of hire
ESSENTIAL
JOB DUTIES
The following duties are normal for this
position. This list is not
all-inclusive. Other duties may be
required.
Controls weeds on county right-of-ways
using chemical and mechanical methods
Controls brush and trees on county
right-of-ways using chemical application, and mechanical methods such as
chainsaws, chippers, mowers, and heavy equipment
Seeds disturbed areas in county
right-of-ways and public property
Performs erosion control and prevention in
county right-of-ways
Establishes and maintains native plant
communities
Performs duties related to
controlled/prescribed burning in grasslands
Plants trees
Maintains and services vehicles, machines,
and tools.
Constructs, cleans, maintains and repairs
conservation department facilities
Assists in developing and presenting
environmental education programs.
Interacts with the public
Assists in planning, planting, improving
and maintaining wildlife areas.
Assigns, supervises, and evaluates the work
of seasonal employees.
Performs assigned tasks as needed to
further improve the Roadside Management Plan
Qualifications
Position requires a two year college degree and one year experience in a natural resources field or equivalent in experience. Must be 18 with valid driver's license. Class A CDL and Pesticide applicator license within 60 days of hire.
