Description
Full-time position under the general supervision of the
Director. Responsibilities include Park Ranger duties at parks and campgrounds
in Howard County, maintenance and management of HCCB areas, maintenance of
equipment, supervision of seasonal employees and have the ability to work
without direct supervision. General knowledge of equipment and vehicle
operation, chainsaw, weed trimmer, basic carpentry, electrical, plumbing and
landscaping skills. Recommends and implements enhancements in natural resources
and recreational management, including timber stand improvement, prairie and
tree planting, invasive species control and prairie burns. Answers questions
and provide information to the public on park services. Candidate must possess
a valid Iowa driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record. Must possess
or be able to obtain Iowa Pesticide Applicators Certification. Must have good
public and human relation skills. Position requires working a non-standard work
week during the camping season that includes nights, weekends and holidays.
County owned housing provided, cell phone, uniform allowance, 12 paid holidays,

Qualifications
Requirements to include associate degree from an accredited college in natural resources or related field, or equivalent work experience. Must be able to meet minimum qualifications to enter the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy or be already certified.
