Harrison County Conservation Board is located in the beautiful Loess Hills of western Iowa! There are 18 park and wildlife areas with almost 1,800 acres for outdoor recreation like camping, fishing, hunting, hiking, wildlife watching, picnicking and boating. We’re just an hour from Omaha and surrounding attractions including the Harrison County Historical Village and Iowa Welcome Center, Loess Hills State Forest/Brent S. Olson Memorial Visitor Center, and DeSoto National Wildlife Refuge. There’s something for everyone!

 

ATTENTION: THE NEW WILLOW LAKE NATURE CENTER IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!

 

The NEW Willow Lake Nature Center at the Willow Lake Recreation Area near Woodbine is now open to the public. Regular hours are Monday-Friday, 8 am-4 p.m. and until Wednesday until 6 p.m.; Sundays in September and October, 12-4 pm. The exhibit hall features interactive displays about watersheds, water, wildlife, and habitats-great for all ages! There is no entrance fee.

 

ATTENTION: AS OF SEPTEMBER 1st, 2023, HUNTING IS NO LONGER ALLOWED AT THE WILLOW LAKE RECREATION AREA.

Activities in Harrison County

Nestled in the rolling Loess Hills, Harrison County Conservation Board park and wildlife areas offer many outdoor recreational opportunities. Click on the park or activities tab to start your adventure!

 

Bring the family to camp for the weekend at either the Willow Lake Recreation Area near Woodbine or Schaben Park near Dunlap. At this time, we do not take reservations for camping; sites available on a first come, first serve basis. Click on the facilities tab for more information about our campgrounds. If you're looking for something more like a "home away from home," we also have rental cabins at Willow Lake. Click on the cabins tab to learn more or to make a reservation.

The Harrison County Historical Village and Iowa Welcome Center located near Missouri Valley takes you back in time with a log cabin, one room school, museum with Native American artifacts and agricultural displays and the Lincoln Highway. Click on the Iowa Welcome Center tab for more information.

Conservation education programs are offered throughout the year for schools, public programs, youth groups, and community organizations. The new Willow Lake Nature Center is open to the public with an exhibit hall featuring interactive displays about watersheds, water, wildlife, and habitats.
