Hidden in the Turkey River valley, the Motor Mill Historic Site is a peaceful natural area that features a six-story limestone flouring grist mill and four related stone buildings dating from the late 1860’s. Motor Mill is a historic site on the National Register of historic places and a Silo's and Smokestacks partner site.
Motor Mill park also offers primitive camping, canoe access on the Turkey River, trails for hiking and horseback riders, and bow hunting. For questions regarding camping check our our Clayton County FAQ section here on Mycountyparks, if you are unable to find an answer please call our office! 

Location

Motor Mill is located about 7 miles east of Elkader, Iowa along the Turkey River. 

Features

 A six story limestone mill, cooperage, ice house, inn and stable made of limestone quarried nearby are present. The total site covers 155 acres and has two trails. Guided tours of historic Motor Mill are offered each Saturday and Sunday (Memorial Weekend-Labor Day weekend) from noon-5pm

Primitive camping is available for $15.00 per night, there are 5 campsites, on a first come first serve basis if not already reserved. Online reservations can be made 3 days in advance by clicking here.

The Motor Mill Inn is now available for reservations. This historic building can accommodate 12 guests in the two fully furnished floors. Reduced rates are available for smaller groups by calling 563-245-1516.

The Stable is no available to rent for your upcoming event. This open space barn is perfect for a small wedding, graduation, reunion, etc. Call to make a reservation or visit the facilities page to book online.

Operating Hours & Seasons

Guided tours of historic Motor Mill are offered each Saturday and Sunday (Memorial Day weekend-Labor Day weekend) from noon-5pm Primitive camping is available for $15.00 per night, there are 5 campsites.

All county parks open at 6:00 AM & close at 10:30 PM.
