Swiss Valley Nature Center

Overview

Located in Peosta, Iowa (a town of around 2,000), the Swiss Valley Nature Preserve and Center remains open all year, closing only for holidays. From sunrise to sunset, sightseers are welcome to explore Swiss Valley's 476 acres of trails, prairies, creeks, and woodlands. The on-site Nature Center showcases exhibits explaining the complex ecosystems found in those 476 acres, giving curious minds a deeper understanding of the grounds they'll be trekking through. Outdoors, visitors will discover a world of fun on Swiss Valley's hiking and cross-country skiing trails, at trout-filled creeks, and near landmarks like The Big Rock or Hanging Bog. The Dubuque County Conservation Board offers environmental education programming for preschools, elementary, middle, and high schools, as well as specialty groups etc. Naturalists will come to your site to provide programming or meet your group at a natural area. The nature center contains interpretive displays on wildlife, ecology, and history of the Swiss Valley area. The preserve has ten miles of hiking trails.
