Discover Locher Recreation Area in Cascade

Locher Lake Recreation Area is one of Dubuque County’s newest outdoor destinations, located just outside of Cascade. This 116-acre property offers a diverse and scenic landscape shaped by water, woods, and open space. At its center is a striking 40-foot-deep lake, complemented by a 6-acre pond and the winding North Fork of the Maquoketa River, which flows through the property. Visitors can enjoy a variety of outdoor experiences, from quiet shoreline fishing to paddling across open water or hiking along nearly 2.5 miles of trails. The natural setting provides opportunities for wildlife viewing, relaxation, and year-round recreation. Locher Lake Recreation Area was made possible through the collaboration of more than 15 partners, reflecting a strong community commitment to expanding outdoor recreation in Dubuque County. As the area continues to develop, it is poised to become a favorite destination for both residents and visitors alike.
