Knapp I Wildlife Area is an approximately 60-acre public hunting and wildlife management area located east of Colwell on 140th Street. Its unique U-shaped property includes native prairie, upland habitat, wooded areas, abundant edge habitat, and a restored wetland.

The wetland provides water, food, nesting areas, and shelter for waterfowl, amphibians, reptiles, insects, and other wildlife throughout the year. The surrounding prairie and upland areas also create valuable habitat for pheasants and additional game species. Knapp I is popular for waterfowl, pheasant, and other upland hunting during designated seasons.
