Harrison County IA Freedom Rock
The Freedom Rock project began in 1999 as a patriotic tribute by Iowa artist Ray "Bubba" Sorensen II. Inspired by the movie Saving Private Ryan, Sorensen wanted to honor America's veterans, especially as he reflected on the sacrifices of the "Greatest Generation."
Each county’s rock is tailored to reflect local heroes—from Medal of Honor recipients to WWII nurses to community members who served. This is a powerful, living tribute to U.S. veterans in all 99 of Iowa Counties.
Harrison County's Freedom Rock honors Sergeant Clifford Totten, Hans Hansen, and Zoe Leonard.
