Natural Resources Assistant (Seasonal)
Jackson County Conservation
Mid-September-December 2026
Hourly Pay: $15
Duration: Up to 667 hours.
Job Description: Jackson County Conservation (JCC) is seeking a seasonal Natural Resources Assistant to aid in the conservation management of Jackson County Conservation Properties and special projects from October 2026-December 2026. JCC is looking for a passionate individual seeking to gain more knowledge and experience habitat restoration and natural resources management activities. Also, a candidate who enjoys working out of doors. The Natural Resources Assistant will be supervised by and will assist JCC’s Natural Resources Ecologist with habitat restoration and conservation management practices on JCC properties and special projects with an emphasis on oak woodland, savanna, and remnant prairie management.
Essential Duties: Assist with
- Tree and woody debris removal
- Invasive species removal
- Invasive species treatment
- Prescribed fire
Other Duties:
- Chainsaw sharpening
- Basic map making
- Assisting with record keeping and note taking
- Assist with species inventory
- Assist with restoration site assessments
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Highschool Graduate
- Valid Iowa Driver’s License
- The ability to lift 50 lbs
- The ability to work in rugged terrain
- The ability to work outside in all types of weather
- Basic knowledge of Iowa native plants
- A good working knowledge of Iowa native habitats
- A good working knowledge of habitat management techniques
- Good people skills and a positive attitude
- Flexibility with day-to-day work activities
Preferred but not required:
- Received or working towards a degree in Natural Resources Management or equivalent degree

Become a Conservation Board Member
Volunteer terms are 5 years for our 5-member board. One position becomes available each January. Apply by December 31st. Meetings are held monthly the 3rd Tuesday at 5:00 pm. Most meetings are held at the Hurstville Interpretive Center; some meetings are held at county parks throughout the year. Click here for an application.
