Roadside Remnant Prairies

Event Summary

Iowa was once covered with one of the most magnificent ecosystems of earth, the Tallgrass Prairie. Today less than .01% of Iowa’s original prairies remain. Some of the areas where original, or remnant, prairies remain are in our road right of way and on public land. On Sunday February 22 at the Hurstville Interpretive Center join JCCB staff and learn about a recent roadside vegetation survey conducted in the county. This survey was conducted to identify areas of remnant prairie vegetation remaining in Jackson County Road right of way. As well as learn prairie ecology basics, and how Jackson County Conservation is managing remnant prairie on County Conservation property.

Please register 48 hours in advance. To register, call Jackson County Conservation at (563) 652-3783 or email tvorwald@jacksoncounty.iowa.gov.  In the event of inclement weather (rain, snow, cold temperatures) the event will be canceled.  If the event was to be canceled Jackson County Conservation will have that announcement on our Facebook page.
