Nestled in the heart of Flying Squirrel Campground, the Flying Squirrel Shelter sits adjacent to the new playground, the Mary Lundby bridge and a trail connection to Central City. Watercraft concession with kayak and canoe rentals is within walking distance, open May through August. 8 picnic tables are provided.
Location
4962 Valley Farm Road Central City - located northwest of Central City within the family campground complex on the east side of the Wapsipinicon River. The shelter is in the valley. Enter the north park entrance off Hwy. 13/Valley Farm Road and follow the park signs to the Flying Squirrel Campground area - just beyond the sanitary dumping stations.

Flying Squirrel Shelter is a seasonal facility available for reservations from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily April 15th - October 15th. (NOTE: When not reserved, the shelter is available on a first-come, first-served basis).
Closures
Flying Squirrel Shelter is closed to reservations October 16th - April 14th. The area surrounding Flying Squirrel Shelter is prone to flooding during moderate high water episodes on the Wapsipinicon River. If flooding occurs, the shelter may be closed.
