Foraging Class - Morels and Mustard
MAY 09 2026 3:00 PM
Event Summary
Learn how to identify, harvest and prepare several species of plants and fungi; growing right in your local natural areas. Our target fungus species will be morel and pheasant back mushrooms. Though we are at the edge of their range, morel mushrooms can be found in Plymouth County. Since these mushrooms are really good at hiding, we will also be looking for pheasant back mushrooms. Two very different mushrooms; both very tasty. Garlic mustard is our target plant species. Invasive garlic mustard is spreading like wildfire in our woodlands, threatening to crowd out native plant species. Lucky for us, this pesky plant has a pleasant taste. While harvesting this plant, we will be helping our woodlands thrive.
At the end of this program, we learn how to prepare the food we harvested.
Participants should be aware the terrain is steep and hilly. We will walk on and off trail. We may hike a little further than a mile from the parking lot. Please wear sturdy hiking shoes/ boots. Ticks will be active, so long pants and sleeves are recommended. There are no restrooms on site, nor is there running water.
