Event Summary
Learn how to identify, harvest and prepare nettles. Although run into nettles can result in a very itchy situation, consuming them can be very beneficial. Nettles have been credited with having many health benefits; everything from strengthening the immune system to improving skin, hair and nails, improving blood pressure and controlling blood sugar. Nettles have anti-inflammatory, antiallergy, and anticancer properties. Nettles are high in vitamin B, C, K, and carotenoids, as well as iron, calcium, potassium, sodium, selenium, manganese, sulfur and silica. These are just some of the health benefits derived from consuming nettles.
Participants should plan to walk on uneven surfaces on and off trails; please wear sturdy shoes. Ticks will be active; wear long pants and sleeves to help keep these critters off your skin.
